Bere Island

The handover of Bere Island by the British to the Irish Free State, (Saorstát Éireann)
26th September 1938.
Although Southern Ireland won Dominion Status on the 6th December 1921, the United Kingdom retained control as sovereign bases, three deep water ports in Ireland. Known collectively as the Treaty Ports, these were respectively, Castletown Berehaven, Lough Swilly and Queenstown (Cobh)
