Anyone remember Douglas Buckeridge, his wife Kathleen or his children Jack or Maude.
Douglas was manager of the Provincial Bank in the Square, Castletownbere.

Douglas (1893-1949) was born in England but his family moved to Dublin about 1900 and he grew up in Ireland.

He join the Provincial Bank in Dublin in 1912 and by 1914 was based in Cork City.

He joined the army in 1914 as an ordinary soldier serving France and Africa.
he was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant and was demobbed as a Captain in 1919.

He returned to the bank in 1919 and was transferred by the bank from Kilkee, Co.Clare in 1940 and was manager of the bank in Castletownbere till his death in 1949.

His early death aged 56 from lung cancer was probably brought on by being gassed on the western front during the Great War.

His family moved away first to Kilkenny where his wife was from before settling in Cork City.

His son Jack  (1922-  ) managed a number of hotels in Ireland before moving to Jersey where he became general manager of the Grand Hotel.
He is now retired and living in Bournmount, England aged 90 years.

His daughter Maude (1933-2008) also joined the Provincial Bank in Cork City before marrying.
She spent most of her life in Cork City but enjoyed returning to Beara regularly on holidays.
Her children still have many happy memories of holidays in the Wheel Inn and still visit Beara.
