Biography (A little about yourself)

Born in Detroit, Michigan, the son of a first generation Irish-American woman and her Canadian husband. Grew up in Detroit and Tucson, Arizona. Spent 9 years on active duty in the US Marine Corps and another 13 years in the Marine Corps Reserve. Along the way I worked as an auto and truck mechanic while completing degrees in physics, and then went to work as a NASA contractor. Since coming to Maryland in 1991 I've worked on the Hubble Space Telescope, the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer, the Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer, the DataLynx commercial space network, and a couple of weather satellites.

I'm an active family history researcher, interested in the Beara peninsula because that's where my grandmother was born and grew up. I also have interests in the St. Mullins area of County Carlow, in Canada, Great Britain, and the Isle of Man.
